The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
