The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
