The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
