The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
