Al-Alaq

The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
