The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
