The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
