The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
