The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
