The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
