The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
