The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
