And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
