He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
