The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
