He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
