The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
