Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
