He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
