The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
