The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 purify your garments; 4 And pollution shun. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
