And recall what time Ibrahim said unto his father and his people: verily I am quit of that which ye worship. 26 Other than Him who created me. He will show me the right way." 27 And he made it a word enduring among his posterity; haply so they would return. 28 Nay, but I gave these and their fathers enjoyment of days, until the truth came unto them, and a manifest Messenger. 29 And when the truth came to them they said, “This is magic, and we disbelieve in it.” 30 And they say: wherefore hath not this Qur'an been revealed to a man of the two cities who was great. 31 Is it they who distribute the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who have distributed their livelihood among them in the life of this world, and have raised some above others in rank that some of them may harness others to their service. Your Lord's Mercy is better than all the treasures that they hoard. 32 Were it not that all mankind would become a single community (and follow the same way), We would have provided for all those who disbelieve in the Merciful One silver roofs for their houses, and (silver) stairs on which to go up, 33 And silver doors for their houses, and silver couches whereon they recline, 34 And ornament of gold. And yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world; and the Hereafter with thy Lord is for the Godfearing. 35
