In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
