Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
