The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except those who pray, 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
