Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
