The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
When the sunlight is rolled up. 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 The mountains made to move, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 and when the scrolls of (men's) deeds shall be unfolded, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when the Garden is brought near;- 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 stars which are visible during the night 16 and by the night as it recedes, 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. (Prophet Mohammed saw Angel Jibreel in his true shape – peace and blessings be upon them). 23 he is not niggardly of the Unseen. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 When whither go ye? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 And ye shall not will unless it be that Allah, the Lord of the worlds, willeth. 29
