The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
