He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
