Jinns (Al-Jinn)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ SAY: "It has been revealed to me that some of the unseen beings gave ear [to this divine writ,] and thereupon said [unto their fellow-beings]: "'Verily, we have heard a wondrous discourse, 1 ‘That guides to the path of goodness, we have therefore accepted faith in it; and we shall never ascribe anyone as a partner to our Lord.’ 2 And (we believe) that He - exalted be the glory of our Lord! - hath taken neither wife nor son, 3 And [now we know] that the foolish among us have been saying outrageous things about God. 4 We had supposed that men and jinn would never utter a lie against God. 5 And that persons from among men used to seek refuge with persons from among jinn, so they increased them in wrongdoing: 6 so much so that they came to think, as you [once] thought, that God would never [again] send forth anyone [as His apostle]. 7 We sought to reach heaven, but found it filled with strong guards and flames -- 8 we used to take up a position to listen, but whoever listens now finds a flaming fire lying in wait for him -- 9 And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course. 10 For some of us are upright and some otherwise: Surely we follow different ways. 11 We know that we cannot frustrate Allah in the earth, nor can we frustrate Him by flight. 12 When we heard the guidance, we believed in it; and whosoever believes in his Lord, he shall fear neither paltriness nor vileness. 13 And some of us have surrendered, and some of us have deviated. Those who have surrendered sought rectitude; 14 but as for those who have deviated, they have become firewood for Gehenna!"' 15 (Say): "If they keep to the right path We shall give them water in abundance to drink 16 So that We might try them with respect to it; and whoever turns aside from the reminder of his Lord, He will make him enter into an afflicting chastisement: 17 All places of worship are for God; so do not invoke any one with God. 18 And when the bondman of Allah stood calling upon Him, they well nigh pressed on him stifling. 19
