The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
