[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
