۞ And when the son of Maryam is held up, an example, behold! thy people thereat cry out. 57 saying, "Are our gods better or him?" -- they cite him only to challenge you: they are a contentious people -- 58 He ['Iesa (Jesus)] was not more than a slave. We granted Our Favour to him, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel (i.e. his creation without a father). 59 And if We willed, We could have made [instead] of you angels succeeding [one another] on the earth. 60 He is a sign of the Hour. Have no doubt about it. But follow me. This is a straight path; 61 And do not ever let the devil stop you; he is indeed your open enemy. 62 When Jesus came with the signs, he said: "I have come to you with authority, and to explain some thing about which you are at variance. So fear God, and follow me. 63 “Allah is indeed my Lord, and yours – therefore worship Him; this is the Straight Path.” 64 Then the sects differed among themselves. Woe then unto those who do Wrong because of the torment of an afflictive Day. 65 They await but the Hour: that it should come upon them of a sudden, while they perceive not. 66 Close friends will turn into enemies of one another on that Day, except the pious. 67
