The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a return for the insolent, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
