The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Almighty Allah's Truth.
