In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
