The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By those who drag forth to destruction, 1 By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers); 2 and float [through space] with floating serene, 3 And then they speed with foremost speed. 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 On the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], 6 And there will follow it the next blast. 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 while eyes will be downcast. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 What, when we are bones old and wasted?' 11 They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!" 12 But it shall be only a single cry, 13 And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface. 14 Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? 15 How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa, 16 saying, "Go to the Pharaoh. He has transgressed beyond all bounds. 17 And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? 18 and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"' 19 So he showed him the greater sign; 20 But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance,] 21 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, 22 And assembled (his council) and proclaimed, 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 Wherefore Allah laid hold of him with the punishment of the Hereafter and of the present. 25 Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [Allah]. 26
