He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
