The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
