۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 Then, are we not to die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
