The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
