The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So announce to them a painful punishment~ 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
