1/2 Hizb 33
< random >
۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
