Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
