Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
