He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
