The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
