The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "He is certainly a skillful magician. 34 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?" 35 They said: "Put him off and his brother (for a while), and send callers to the cities 36 and summon every skillful magician from all the cities." 37 So the sorcerers were assembled for the appointed time of a fixed day. 38 And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble? 39 (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners. 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?" 41 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs saying, "By the honor of the Pharaoh we shall certainly become the winners". 44 Therefore Moosa put forth his staff – so it immediately began swallowing all their fabrications. 45 The magicians fell down prostrate, 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 48 Said (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely he is your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross!" 49 'There is no harm' they replied, 'for surely to our Lord we are turning. 50 We are eager that our Lord should forgive us our offences, for that we are the first of the believers.' 51
