The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
