He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
